In the spring of 1819, a younger fellow by the name of Henry Shaw from Sheffield, England landed in the small French village if St. Louis, Missouri. There he established up a business selling components to the settlers that had been heading out from the "Gateway to the West." Business was good and he was able to retire by the age of forty.
